My Approach

You have already explained yourself. That is the problem.

Most people who reach me can describe their difficulty fluently. They have language for it, a theory about where it came from, and no relief. What they have not had is someone willing to look at what the explanation is doing.

What the work is

Relational, psychoanalytically informed, and direct.

Psychoanalytic does not mean silence and a couch. It means we treat what happens between us as information. How you present yourself to me, what you leave out, what you manage — that material is live in the room, and it is usually the same material that runs your life outside it.

Relational means I am in it too. I will tell you what I notice, including when what I notice is uncomfortable. People who are used to being handled can tell when they are being handled, and it wastes the hour.

Direct means I say things plainly and early. I would rather be wrong out loud and corrected by you than accurate and silent for six months.

How it runs

Weekly, open-ended, by secure video.

Frequency

Weekly at minimum. Twice weekly where the work calls for it — more contact makes the pattern visible faster, not slower.

Length

Fifty minutes. Open-ended rather than a fixed number of sessions, because depth does not run to a schedule.

How you will know

Within a few months something outside the room should be different. If it is not, we say so and look at why.

Where this comes from

Years of assessing what was actually going on.

Before private practice I worked in forensic settings — court-ordered evaluations, expert testimony, inpatient work for the State of California. The task there was to read a person accurately regardless of how well they presented, often when there was a strong reason for them to present well.

That training does not switch off, and it is most of why this work tends to move faster than people expect. It is not a claim to see through anyone. It is a habit of taking the presentation seriously as data rather than as the whole story.
